How many times have you been told to trust no one and that the world is full of evil? For me, that’s precisely the number of times I’ve tied my shoelaces and walked out the door. The constant reminders come in various forms and tones, from people who’ve been warned many times themselves. Oh and what a coincidence, all these people are women.
At one point, I really believed that every stranger I saw on the street could kidnap me. I still carry that belief wherever I go, because old habits die hard. Who am I kidding. It can’t possibly die when the newspapers remind us of it every single day.
But I refuse to keep expecting the worst from strangers because if someone does kidnap me, it would be a stranger that comes to my rescue like a blessing in disguise.
It’s so simple. I’ve just seen too much good in people to believe it any longer. I’ve met too many strangers that comfort you like a loved one could never. And as easy as it is to say that we live in the worst of times, what good did it do me replaying those warnings constantly in my head?
Yet, I might be totally mistaken. The world might be just everything that I’ve been told – a hidden hell yet to reveal itself. But for now, I’m grateful I haven’t experienced the dark side.
And when I do, I’ll remember all the advice that people have given me. I’ll be ready to embrace change and accept the harsh reality of the world we live in.
But till then, I’d like to believe in goodness.
I would like to believe that every child born today would grow up with so much to look forward to, so much love and joy that the world has to offer.
I would like to believe that I was born in a time and place that has so much to give me and that I have so much to give back to.
So let the world move on in fear and suspicion. For me, I’ll take the road less traveled – one filled with kindness and humanity.
I will continue to hope for goodness, that there is still sunshine left to see.
Beautiful Soundarya — did you peak in my heart and write this!!! I believe in goodness too. When we want to see goodness, goodness wants to see us too!!! And with that, we can share it as smiles and wonderful words — just as you are doing, my sweet friend! Thank YOU! 🙂

I’m so happy to read this, Krishna! (can I call you that or do you prefer something else?) I’m so glad we’re on this journey together ❤ and that's exactly where I was going with this 😀

Isn’t Krishnapriya better? Some people say Krishna – i just keep quiet. 🙂 It feels they are calling me by God’s name when i am just a small-time devotee, if at all. 🙂 In the end it’s not a big deal, either way. 🙂

I mean, I know people with the name ‘Krishna’ so I never really thought of it that way haha…so it’s Krishnapriya then 🙂 ❤

Krishna is a boy’s name though, at least for us. Someone told me Krishna is also the name of Draupadi, so don’t make a big deal. 🙂

Generally, yes. But I’m obsessed with male names for girls 😉 Like Krishna or Rudra. And if I’m not wrong Krishnaa with two As is Draupadi? Maybe it’s because she was dark-skinned?

I wish I had your optimism! Somehow with every passing day I am losing faith in everything I hitherto strongly believed in, not a good thing. May be some day I will be otherwise.

There are good people, definitely!
And there is hope for humanity though there is the dark side too.
But your words are so full of positivity, they make me feel good.

This is a good piece. I believe in hope. For every person who does something terrible, there are millions who don’t. Things ebb and flow and times may get very dark but the light will never go out.

This post resonates with me so much! There are people in the world who only want to find the faults in things and people, instead of trying to find the good in them. I feel like there’s enough negativity in the world and I don’t want to contribute to it. Not all people are bad people. There’s still goodness left on the planet. Thank you for posting this because people need to know there’s something to hope for. Awesome post! 😊🙌💖

There is sunshine left to see, yes but a few dark clouds block them from touching the ground. Good deeds aren’t as influential as bad ones.
In the end, hope is all we got.

The light can’t exists with out the dark nor can the dark exists with out the light, it’s everywhere and nowhere, it’s seen by those that wish to see it and sometimes by those that wish not but this is life. ❤️✌️

I couldn’t agree more with you.of course we must be careful but we also need to trust people and take the chance on others.Seeing evil everywhere won’t bring us nowhere,on the contrary it will freeze whatever path we choose.I might be naive but I rather prefer to see the good of the world around me 😊

It’s definitely not naive, and I wanted to write this post to say just that. Thank you for this comment! I completely agree with you 🙂

I feel the same about your positivity, Diana! And what you said is absolutely true. We all have a different purpose in life, and for some of us, that may be to spread happiness to those who haven’t seen it yet. Let’s take them where the light is!

Your post is very optimistic! I wish I could say the same about me! When you have come across too many bad people and bad experiences I guess it hardens your hearts’ crust..later on it’s very difficult to trust anybody but yourself. But I like you being very positive and optimistic. I guess for every ‘me’, there is a ‘you’ and that kinda balances the equation. No?

I feel terrible for not having thought of that side to it. I understand where you’re coming from and I want to send loads of love and positivity your way!
Also, what a unique insight! I love it.

Thank you Soundarya! Some people see too much too soon which ends up making them terribly cynical. I’m one of those. But I’m extremely glad to come across very positive people in WP who inspire me with their words and life choices and experiences everyday. You are one of those. So happy you found my blog and followed me.Thank you for being you!

I don’t know why that should happen to someone but let’s keep believing that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Even if it’s very hard to believe.
I’m not always happy as I may seem from the enthusiasm in this post. There are times I feel dreadful and worthless. But as long as I have positive thoughts, I like to write it out, exaggerate it as much as I can, so that this white lie might eventually become the truth when I need it the most. It works, fortunately. Sadness and happiness are illusions 🙂
